Kenner’s Starting Lineup was a line of NBA action figures sold in toy stores, not a pack-based trading-card product. Each figure came packaged with a collector card of the same player tucked into the box, so the only way to obtain the card was to buy the toy — there were no wax packs and no cases. This is the 1989 ‘One on One’ card, part of one of the earliest Starting Lineup basketball releases and a favorite among collectors precisely because of its late-1980s vintage.
It pictures Jordan driving the ball in a road Bulls uniform inside the bright yellow Starting Lineup / One on One border, with the Chicago Bulls logo and a blue nameplate reading ‘MICHAEL JORDAN 23.’ The back carries his NBA regular-season statistics through the 1988–89 season, a facsimile signature, and a © 1989 NBA / MSA / Kenner line noting it was printed in the USA. Because these cards were packaged with a toy rather than sealed in packs — pressed against the figure’s tray and handled outside any protective sleeve — clean, well-centered copies are scarce, and gem-mint survivors from a release this old are scarcer still. PSA has graded 493 copies across all grades, and only 31 have received a PSA 10, a gem rate of 6.29 percent.
