This is the 1990 ‘Brown’ card, the variant collectors name for its warm brown border and the ‘1990 EDITION’ tag printed in red at the lower right. Like the rest of Kenner’s Starting Lineup issues, it was never sold on its own: the card was tucked inside the box of a Starting Lineup NBA action figure, sold through toy-store aisles rather than card shops, so a buyer acquired it only by purchasing the figure.
What sets this one apart from the other Jordan Starting Lineups is the photograph — an in-arena action shot of Jordan finishing a dunk at the rim, a ‘LET’S GO’ arena sign glowing behind him, with the Michael Jordan / Chicago Bulls roundel and the Starting Lineup logo anchoring the bottom corners. The reverse carries his full NBA regular-season statistics through the 1989–90 campaign, a facsimile signature, and a © 1990 NBA / MSA / Kenner credit with a Hong Kong printing line. Toy packaging is unkind to cardboard — corners press against the plastic tray and surfaces scuff — so even though this was a widely produced edition, gem-mint copies remain a small fraction of the survivors: PSA has assigned a 10 to just 75 of the 1,465 examples it has graded, a 5.12 percent gem rate.
