Nike distributed Jordan poster sets to retailers in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Inside each shipping box of rolled posters was a small trade card listing the poster’s title and catalog number so store staff could identify the shipment. These cards were never sold to the public; they were working documents, and most were discarded once the posters were shelved. The survivors made it through by accident. This card, #948, references the ‘Genie’ poster (Nike catalog 290948), built from the 1991 Air Jordan commercial Spike Lee directed. In it, Lee’s Mars Blackmon character — first seen in his 1986 film She’s Gotta Have It — rubs a lamp and summons a genie played by rock-and-roll pioneer Little Richard, who grants him the gift of flight and transforms him into Michael Jordan. It is one of the few Jordan poster designs to feature a third cultural figure, and Little Richard’s presence makes it distinct within the set. The poster measured 24×36 inches. Seventeen examples have been submitted to PSA across all grades; two have received a PSA 10. DimeLabs owns one of the two gem mint copies.
