The Beam Team is one of the most celebrated insert lines of the 1990s, and this is the second-year edition from 1993–94 Topps Stadium Club. The concept began the year before, when Topps sponsored a touring laser light show called ‘Beams Above the Rim’ that debuted at the NBA All-Star Game; the cards pay homage to it with holographic light-beams worked into the borders. For 1993–94 the set grew to 27 cards spread across both series, the beams shifted to conjoin with the Beam Team branding along the bottom, and the player nameplate took on the pink-and-purple foil that makes this release so striking in hand — the silver holographic shards catching light against that purple plate.
The photo is a powerful above-the-rim dunk, Jordan rising over a young Charlotte defender, and the back — ‘Card 4 of 27’ — reads ‘He STANDS ALONE… beyond the STATS, behind the HEADLINES, Michael is one thing above all else: a CHAMPION.’ What makes a PSA 10 so elusive is the foil-and-beam surface: it shows the faintest scratch, print line or edge nick, so even though this was a widely pulled and heavily graded insert, gem-mint copies are a tiny fraction of the whole. Of 2,637 graded across all grades, only 27 have earned a PSA 10 — a gem rate of just 1.02 percent.
