Why this photograph matters

This is not a reproduction. This is the actual physical print that circulated through wire service libraries while Michael Jordan was still a rookie — before anyone knew what he would become. The back carries five documented publication loans between February 1985 and April 1988. The pink RETURN TO LIBRARY slip is still attached.
